High-Speed Wireless Broadband Supports Medical
Services at the Australian F1 Grand Prix (April 2006)

The Centre for Health Innovation, Intel and industry partners
have partnered to deploy wireless broadband technology enabling the rapid
transmission of x-rays and other images from The Alfred Hospital to the
trackside Medical Centre during the recent F1 GP. The WiMAX link allows
electronic transmission of radiology images from the track to hospital-based
staff prior to patient admission and overcomes the need to burn images to a DVD
which are normally transported with the patient.
The capability improves the efficiency and quality of care for
remote patients, as it facilitates quick and accurate diagnosis and treatment.
The technology has the potential for use at a range of mobile or satellite sites
– be they sporting or medical disasters.
