What do we do at CHI?
The Centre
provides services in clinical education, research and the application of
technology. By engaging collaboratively with clinicians, industry groups and
researchers, the Centre strives to develop innovative solutions to improve
the quality and efficiency of health care delivery in Australia.
The Centre’s unique combination of infrastructure and expertise offers
users:

portal for engaging groups from across the wider health care sector:
clinicians, industry and researchers;

hospital-based testbed to evaluate and/or demonstrate technology products
without risk to patients;
v Simulation
education to support the professional development of medical staff, nurses
and allied health;
v research
capability
in Human Factors to enhance systems design and product usability.

Located at
The Alfred hospital, the Centre is in the same medical precinct also as the
renowned Baker Heart Research Institute and Burnet Research Institute,
Nucleus Network, Monash University and La Trobe University.
The Alfred hospital
Founded in
1871, The Alfred is a major tertiary referral teaching hospital providing a
comprehensive range of specialist acute health and mental health services.
It is a designated statewide provider of Heart and Lung replacement and
transplantation (including mechanical heart program and Paediatric lung
transplantation), Adult Cystic Fibrosis, Adult Major Trauma, Adult Burns,
HIV/AIDS, Haemophilia, Sexual Health, Hyperbaric Medicine, Psychiatric
Intensive Care and Statewide Elective Surgical Services. It provides acute
and mental health care services to the residents of its local community.
These services are provided in a range of inpatient and ambulatory settings
and in partnership with other community service providers. The hospital
employs 4700 staff.
