The Centre and assorted industry partners have deployed a high-speed wireless broadband solution enabling for the rapid transmission of x-rays and other images from The Alfred Hospital to the trackside Medical Centre during the 2006 Australian F1 Grand Prix. The WiMAX link allowed electronic transmission of radiology images from the track to hospital-based staff prior to patient admission and overcomes the need to burn images to a DVD which are normally transported with the patient.

This capability improves the efficiency and quality of care for remote patients, as it facilitates quick and accurate diagnosis and treatment. The technology has the potential for use at a range of mobile or satellite sites – be they sporting or medical disasters.
